The Most Sought After Jobs of 2017 Thinking about a career change this year? Hard to believe, but it’s been almost 7 years since the great recession hit its peak. Things sure have changed in that time. I know, if you were on the job market around 2010 this is probably hard to believe, but it’s true, and it gets even better. If you’ll look at the first chart in the infographic  by Betterteam, you’ll see that employment followed a mirror image trend, and has ended up just a bit above where it was in 2006. On top of all that, we’ve got the longest time to hire in recent history, hovering around 27 days, and the most jobs going unfilled ever in the U.S. This perfect storm has created a job seeker’s market, making it tougher than ever for employers to fill positions. Good news if you’re considering a new job or career this year! So what are the very best places, jobs and industries to be in right now? If you’re thinking about making a career move, or a physical move, this is useful information to have. Some of the highest demand jobs going into 2017 are: Registered Nurses Monthly Demand of 9.1K. Office Manager Monthly Demand of 6.3K. Operations Manager Monthly Demand of 5.7K. Personal Care Aide Monthly Demand of 5K. Accountant Monthly Demand of 4.1K. These may not have been the jobs you dreamed of having when you were a kid, but if you want something that’s in high demand, they’re your ticket. The industries that are growing fastest include: IT 18 percent growth Healthcare 16 percent growth Design 14 percent growth Business financial 9.9 percent growth Sales 6.2 percent growth IT and healthcare were probably not that big of a surprise for people tuned in to the current job market. But design is interesting it’s mostly being carried by web design, an occupation that’s seeing a crazy 27 percent rate of growth. The popular cities were also interesting. They tended toward warmer climates, and five of the ten cities with the fastest job growth were in one state. Here’s the top 5 cities: Cape Coral, FL Myrtle Beach, SC Orlando, FL Naples, FL Tucson, AZ Interestingly, some of the most in demand individual jobs saw peak demand in states whose cities didn’t make our top 10 list. New York State, for example had some of the highest demand for home care aides, and California and Georgia saw high demand for certified nursing assistants and accountants. So, if none of the high growth cities are ideal for you, you may want to look at which states are best for your general industry. In general, if you’re looking to get a little more green, sunshine, or both in your life, now may be the time to make a big move. While no doubt these systems are necessary to screen thousands of applicants, their propensity for error is perhaps one of the larger frustrations faced by job seekers.At some point in the job process, most looking for work must apply online and be subject to the “whims” of these imperfect systems.evalWhen you submit a resume in MS Word or PDF you place yourself at the mercy of ATS to convert the language to be read â€" quite a risk given its limitations.A Plain or Rich-text version of your resume converted from MS Word and formatted using the tips listed below can offer your best bet for getting past these systems and in front of a human.1. Reformat What Can’t be ReadevalHeaders and Footers: These look great in Word, but ATS will miss them. Be sure to include your contact information at the top of your Plain Text document and remove any page number headers and footers that follow.Tables: The jury is out on whether tables that outline core competencies, skills or proficiencies can or can’t be read by ATS. Your safest bet? Remove them by converting the content from the table into a sentence.Use the words “includes” to begin your list. But we think that they wont ever leave because weve seen their resumes and they sell themselves short and they probably wouldnt get hired. Some job seekers do not want to overstate their accomplishments or qualifications or seem boastful, so they paint a picture to prospective employers that they are not as amazing at their job as they really are. Instead of being one of those people whos afraid of change, you can use power words in your resume to take ownership of the many successes youve had at your past jobs. Its not like youre lying on your resume â€" far from it â€" youre just highlighting (in a profound way) your accomplishments in order for them to sound more appealing to the reader. Its time to stop taking the backseat to your insecurities and fix your resume so that you can take your career to that next level. One way is to use more descriptive words when describing your past accomplishments. Instead of saying on your resume, “I organized the file cabinet.”, say something like, “Devised a system of organization which led to increased worker awareness, reduced downtime and saved XYZ Company over $200,000 a year.” Both sentences are true, but the revised one really showcases what you did, how it benefited the company and the employees. Plus, it just sounds more impressive! Its also very important to use quantifiable statements and numbers about the contributions you made at   your previous employers. These statements lend an air of credibility to your resume and give the HR Manager a glimpse into what types of budgets, figures and time frames youre capable of succeeding with. These statements could involve how your job efforts: increased revenue for the 3Q by XXX dollars or percentage helped the company reduce costs and saved them XX dollars as a result of improved processes trained XX employees in a new programming language, which resulted in the company saving XX dollars, improved customer service, etc But, how can adding power words and quantifiable statements on your resume contribute to your job search? Its not just about showing how you saved the company money, improved processes, or trained new employees. Its about putting value in yourself as an employee and showcasing what youve done in a way that allows HR Managers to quickly see how you could benefit their company. You want to sound professional, not like you just tossed in some “2-dollar” words to sound smart.
